    Patriotism. Birds. Leif Erikson. The Pledge of Allegiance. What do these things have in common? The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requires all public schools in Illinois to observe all of them. However, Uni, as a lab school, is exempt from observing these requirement. Even though we don't say the pledge, or celebrate Leif Erikson, the Uni curriculum still covers most of the ideas behind the ISBE's requirements.

    With a seemingly endless number of clubs and a sports program that approximately 70% of students participate in, Uni has a student body that’s known for being involved. However, recently the hallways have been abuzz with discussion of why so many students are no longer participating in their regular extracurricular activities. It seems that the numbers of students participating in activities rarely changes much, but there seems to be a downward trend in participation among upperclassmen.

    Associate Director Jeanette Nuckolls has confirmed to the Gargoyle that this spring, finals are scheduled for Friday, May 23, Tuesday, May 27, and Wednesday, May 28. Before the two snow days, finals were scheduled for May 21 through 23. Some students take issue with the time finals are scheduled for.

    The College Board, owners and publishers of the SAT Reasoning and Subject Tests, recently announced significant changes to the SAT Reasoning Test that will affect high school students for years to come.
