Coaching Staff

Head Coach
Head Coach Joel Beesley

Joel Beesley is entering his 14th year as the Head Coach at Uni High. Most recently, the 2008 squad finished 21-7, marking the third time in four years in which Uni had won twenty or more games. A veteran 2006 squad, led by nine seniors, finished with the third best record in school history (22-6) and defeated Unity on the road. The 2006 team concluded its home schedule with a 21-game home winning streak.

The previous year, the 2005 squad finished with the second best record in school history going 23-5 before bowing out in the Regional Semifinal. That season the team had a school record 15-game winning streak.

Other highlights of his time at Uni include: breaking the school's 52-year regional game losing streak in 1997, the 1998-99 squad's third place finish in the SVC conference, the 2003-04 squad who won seven in a row to close the regular season and finished 15-9.

Coach Beesley came to Uni from Valparaiso University where he played from 1990-1994. During his senior season, Valpo won 20 games for the first time in school history.


Head JV Coach
Head JV Coach Louis DeCosmo
Coach DeCosmo returns as the JV coach for the 2009-010 season. Following a successful 2007-08 season as Head JV Coach, Coach DeCosmo served the next year as Volunteer Assistant due to his travels abroad in the Second Semester. Coach DeCosmo graduated from Glenview South High School after having captained his school’s soccer and basketball teams. He hopes to use his coaching experience and passion for the game of basketball to lead his players to victory.

Boys' Assistant JV Coach
No Picture Scott Gallaway
Scott Galloway will join the Uni High Boys Basketball Team as Assistant JV Coach. This will be his 2nd year of coaching, and his first at Uni High. He has played basketball since the 4th grade. He has won back-to-back Regional Championships at Normal Community High School.

Volunteer Assistant Coach
Volunteer Assistant Coach Kalnitz Coach Kalnitz is in his second year of coaching at Uni High. After playing for four years at Glenbrook South, Coach Kalnitz enrolled at the University of Illinois and is currently a sophomore studying accountancy in the College of Business. He hopes to instill the same values and work ethic that helped his team succeed in high school.

Student Assistant Coach
No Picture Student Assistant Coach Sol Robinson Sol Robinson joined the coaching staff midway through the 2008-09 season. His favorite Boys Basketball moment so far has been beating Normal Calvary Bapist in an overtime thriller. Sol comments, "It is a honor to join such an elite group of student coaches." He will be responsible for game-time statistics and management. This is his second year as a Student Assistant Coach.

No Picture Student Assistant Coach Wyatt Bensken Wyatt Bensken is in his first year on the staff. A freshman at Uni, Coach Bensken is excited about the upcoming season.
