Champaign-Urbana is a metropolitan area in east central Illinois. The twin cities Champaign and Urbana have a combined population of over 110,000, and the larger metropolitan area has a population of over 210,000. The community is home to the University of Illinois with a student population of 42,000. The major sources of employment are education, high performance computing technology, agriculture, manufacturing, and service fields. Newsweek has named Champaign-Urbana as one of the top ten tech cities (outside of the Silicon Valley). Champaign-Urbana also ranked tenth as one of the top twenty-five green cities in the United States according to a survey made by Country Home Magazine.
