Making Pretzels
Pretzels are actually very easy to make. This recipe shows how to make pretzels that my family and I really enjoy.
You will need:
1 1/8 cups of water
3 cups flour
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1½ teaspoons yeast
½ cup baking soda
Coarse salt
Bread making machine
Please read all of the instruction before proceeding
Step 1: In the bread machine's pan, place the water, flour, brown sugar, and yeast. Select setting and mix. Check the dough after 5 minutes and add (if needed) 1 or 2 tablespoons of water, to make the dough thinner, or 1 to 2 tablespoons of flour, to make the dough thicker.
Step 2: When the dough is finished, knead the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into 8 balls. Roll each ball into a 20 inch rope, the rope may be thin, and then form it into a pretzel shape.
Step 3: In a separate bowl, bring 2 quarts of water to a boil and mix in baking soda, make sure it dissolves completely. Place pretzels in the boiling water for about 5 seconds, then dry them briefly on paper towels before placing them on a greased baking sheet. Note: all pretzels may not fit on one sheet, just use more.
Step 4: Bake the pretzels at 425 degrees F for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. After they are removed, lightly brush them with water and sprinkle on salt.
