PROJECT DISAPPEARED:

Project Goals



Specific project goals are to:

  1. Introduce students to the use of genetic technologies in historical problem solving.
  2. Introduce students to the field of bioinformatics and its associated software tools.
  3. Enable students to pursue areas of interest in human right abuses using Internet resources.
  4. Enable students to pursue alternative applications of a selected genetic technology (e.g HLA typing in organ transplantation or mitochondrial DNA analysis in studying evolution or human migration patterns).
  5. Introduce students to the use of full text electronic scientific journal resources available via the Internet.
  6. Enable students to collaborate with classmates and others associated with various institutions and organizations.
  7. Enable students to undertake a variety of roles and responsibilities in developing understanding of the scientific, ethical, legal and social issues relating to the Disappeared of Argentina.
  8. Create a portfolio of student activities, documents, artifacts and/or interviews pertaining to the Disappeared of Argentina.
  9. Recognize the importance of human initiative, and its impact in making technologies accessible to those with limited technological access.
