Distinctive Characteristics and Behaviors:

          All possess eight eyes on their cephalothorax and four to six spinnerets on the dorsal and ventral side of their abdomen.  All possess venom and catch their food by hunting for it.  Females are larger than males, though males have longer legs.  The legs of these spiders are held out from the body, making them look like crabs.
