periodic pyramid for Tuesday January 26.
- Read sections 7.10-7.11.
- For practice, do problems 81-87, 93-100.
- For extra credit make the
periodic spiral for Wednesday January 27.
- Periodic properties of elements 1-20. Plot a graph of first ionization energy against atomic
number, and on the same sheet plot atomic radius against atomic number. Discuss each of these
curves in terms of electron energy levels, sublevels and orbitals; then describe the relationship
between the two properties. On a separate sheet of graph paper plot IE2 vs. Z, IE3
vs. Z and IE4 vs. Z. Compare the shape of the curves and the elements at their
high and low points. Explain any pattern that you discern.
