ADL Youth (Tuesday, Rm. 218)

ADL Youth is an active club whose purpose is to understand and prevent all forms of discrimination, understand the Holocaust, and learn about Jewish culture. This club is inspired by the Anti-Defamation League. Club members discuss important works of literature, watch films, and invite guest speakers to talk about a relevant occupation or current event. ADL Youth is organized into monthly themes and includes topics such as the history and current state of Israel, key motives behind the Holocaust, and the religion of Judaism. Though ADL Youth is concerned with anti-Semitism, many meetings surround all forms of discrimination, including racism.

Our club is an opportunity for people to experience various types of Asian media. We will be focusing on TV dramas and music mainly from Japan, China, and Korea. We will also look at the making of/reactions to the media of topic. We will also discuss our reactions to the media.

This club is all about female empowerment. It will work towards educating students about things such as sexism, double standards, etc. We will actively involve ourselves in activities in the school and the community (e.g helping to establish a women's center on campus). This club will be open to both male and female students because we feel both deserve the right of education and input on the topics at hand.

Club Rock ‘n’ Roll (Friday, South Attic)

Members will play various kinds of popular music (rock, jazz, fusion, etc.). Activities will include holding jam sessions and playing music requested by members. All instruments are acceptable, including voice. Members must bring their instruments (except percussion and keyboard instruments, which are available in the south attic). Anyone is welcome to come and listen.

Dance Club meets regularly on Fridays during lunch in room 206 for students who are interested in dance, whether to learn new dance moves or simply spend time dancing. The club is open to all styles of dance, and is led by Uni's dance crew, where the crew will share new moves they have learned. All music and dance experience is welcome, and beginning dancers are also invited to attend.

At H.I.S.S. (HIstorical Simulation Society), we play history based board games, including but not limited to Risk, Axis and Allies, and others. In recent years, our playing has been limited to Risk, but we are looking to change that.

The purpose of this club is to passively pursue knowledge in inventions by means of lectures, small field trips, and individual inquiries with guidance of Mr. Bergandine. Japan Club is open to everyone- students taking Japanese or anyone else who is simply interested in other cultures. This club is chiefly to learn about and appreciate Japanese culture. Meetings may include folding origami, listening to Japanese music, or eating Japanese food.

Kung Fu club is all about watching funny and/or legitimately good films involving martial arts. Sometime we watch a film purely because it's so bad it's good, but sometimes we watch films that are truly well-done.

Music Club is focused on the appreciation of music. We invite guest performers to Uni to perform during lunch, and we host lunchtime and evening student recitals. On a weekly basis we listen to various musical forms and composers. We have occasional evening trips to the Krannert Center for musical events, and we have an annual trip to Chicago for a musical event.

Obama Club watches Obama speeches, talks about Obama and where he stands on the issues, and discusses ways to help the Obama campaign. It is for anyone with an interest in Obama or politics in general.

Physiognomy Club (Monday, Rm. 218)

Physiognomy club shall investigate the ancient technique of determining a person's character through their facial bone structure. Though physiognomy is perhaps an inaccurate method for classifying people's true natures, the study of people's bone structures is certainly as fascinating as it is bizarre. The club shall look at the ancient techniques of determining if a person's physiognomy is pleasurable, and then shall look a the influential figures of today's society to see how physiognomy continues to subconsciously influence who is accepted into social spheres.

Prejudice Awareness Club [P.A.C.] (Wednesday, Rm. 218)

PAC will be a club that primarily utilizes discussion as a mode to explore issues of prejudice, beyond racial or ethnic prejudice, but also sexual, religious, economic, and other forms. We will evaluate current events and essentially the world around to evaluate how these prejudices impact our daily lives. As the name implies, the goal of this club is not to abolish all the prejudices in the world, but simply to raise awareness of them to a small group of people and hopefully incur an effect.

Queer Straight Alliance [QSA] (Friday, Rm. 205)

This club is about respecting everyone, including their sexual orientation. We organize a couple big events throughout the year; The Day of Silence, and National Coming Out Day. We are hoping this year to connect with the U of I office for Gay And Lesbian Affairs, which will hopefully have resources we can use. We are also going to discuss current LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) issues, looking at LGBTQ magazines and websites.

Rif Raf (Reading Is Fun; Read And Frolic) is essentially Uni's book club. Rif Raf is the only club in the school which allows you to eat in the library. In the club, you will discuss, argue about, deride, and trash books. There are weekly book talks, and occasionally there are contests like "strangest book title" or even formalized debates over which is better: Eragon or Harry Potter. Each topic is chosen the week before by the members of the club. Check the Uni library page for the next week's topic.

S4BW [Students for a Better World] (Wednesday, Rm. 109)

S4BW (Students For A Better World) is the general community service club at Uni. Projects over the last year included: bike rides in the fall and spring to benefit the local women's shelter, a Halloween can drive, candygrams, and a Cajun dinner to benefit Wilson Elementary in New Orleans. Helping out others is fun and a great thing to do, and we welcome new members!

Sexual Health Awareness Group [SHAG] (Thursday, Rm. 218)

This group discusses the basic sexual anatomy, basic contraceptives, and Sexually Transmitted Infections and Diseases (STI's and STD's). We also discuss relationship issues, and how to work with your partner toward a healthy relationship. We also don't ignore the idea of abstinence, but realize there is more to it than just saying "no." We discuss that too. This is a very good place to learn about healthy sexual activity, and not be shy, or afraid of gossip.

Stuff Club is a movie club designed to show less mainstream media. The lowest common denominator does not appeal to everyone, and this club caters to those people.

Thespians meet on Mondays in the North Attic, and we discuss Uni theatre. We talk about what plays we want to do and how we're going to fund them. We also determine which Stud Prod plays will be performed, and we sometimes talk about what's going on in theatre in the community. Since Thespians is a state thing, you have to be an official member to attend meetings, meaning you have to be inducted after you've participated in a certain number of Uni plays and you also have to pay a membership fee.

Tolkien Club (Tuesday, Library)

In Tolkien club, we will study and discuss the works of the great author, J.R.R. Tolkien, as well as the entire genre of high fantasy, which he helped to develop. We will also possibly watch parts of the "Lord of The Rings" movies, based on the books by Tolkein.

UNICEF Club is orientated around helping impoverished children in third-world countries. Fundraisers include ice cream sales, bake sales, a movie night, collecting school supplies, and Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF. This club is also to educate members about the situations in various third-world countries, how the situations are affecting the children, and what we can do to help them. Having fun, learning about current events and helping children lead better lives are the main reasons we are enthusiastic about the cause.

Unique Literary Magazine (Tuesday, Rm. 106S)

This club works toward getting a better understanding ourselves of the current conflict in Uganda, with child soldiers, and the Lords Resistance Army. Our major goals are to raise money and awareness for this issue, and we do that through multiple activities throughout the year, including Lock-ins, Benefit Concerts and food sales at Uni.
