Class A Boys State Meet (Prelims)

• Malcolm Taylor qualified for Saturday's finals in the 400-meter dash by tying for the fastest time in Class A.
• Competing in separate heats, he and sophomore Ben Asmus of Heyworth ran the event in 50.03 seconds.
• Taylor, Asmus, and seven others will advance to Saturday's title race at EIU's O'Brien Stadium.
• The race is scheduled to begin at 2:40 p.m.
• Taylor and Asmus are the two fastest 400 runners in Class A.
• They ran against each other in last week's Monticello sectional.
• Taylor won by two-tenths of a second (49.20 - 49.40).
• No other Uni athletes advanced to Saturday's finals.
• The 4x800 relay team (Isaac Chambers, Austin Rundus, Jacob Olshansky, Malcolm Taylor) placed 14th out of 34 teams; only the top 12 advanced out of prelims.
• Uni recorded a time of 8:22.66; the 12th-place team (Winnetka North Shore Country Day) ran 8:22.22.
• Frankie McFarland placed 35th in the shot put (41-1 3/4) and 15th in the discus throw (135-4).
