URBANA — Uni girls volleyball beat Judah Christian in two games in a very close match highlighted by senior Annie Machesky tying the school career record for digs.
The outcome was a little closer than the Illineks would have liked as they won both games with identical scores: 25-21. The girls played well enough to win, but their performance was much below expectations.
The team's record is now 11-7 overall, and 5-1 in the East Central Illinois Conference, one game behind conference leader Decatur Lutheran (6-0).
Senior Rachel Skoza led the team with six kills. Junior Michelle Wong recorded a team-high seven assists, and Machesky led with seven digs. Machesky is now tied for the career digs record with Mandy Grill (2003-07) with 471 digs.
In JV action, Uni defeated Judah in three games: 25-22, 16-25, 15-3. With the win, the JV improved to 2-6 overall, 2-3 ECIC.
In previous years, Uni has smashed Judah. Just last year, Uni didn't even let the team reach 20 points. The Illineks face Judah once more this season at The Tribe's place.
