UNI'S TWIN CITY MEET PERFORMANCE AT A GLANCE

When & Where: Tuesday, Oct. 21, Unit 4 Pool, Centennial H.S.

Result: Third out of four teams (Central 456, Centennial 346, UNI 268, Urbana 265)

Summary: Junior Lisa Boyce won the 100-yard backstroke and 100 freestyle, giving her 18 first places in 18 individual events this season. Milee Nelson took the 500 free, and the 400 free relay team of Boyce, Nelson, Sian Best, and Maritza Mestre won as well.

CHAMPAIGN — The Uni girls swim team placed third at the Twin City Meet on Tuesday, ahead of Urbana High School.

Champaign Central and Centennial placed first and second, with 456 and 346 points, respectively.

Uni followed Centennial with 268 points, just three points ahead of Urbana's 265. The Tigers' score also included the 11 points they received from diving.

Junior Lisa Boyce's first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke and 100 freestyle were big factors in Uni's outcome.

Even more impressive: Her performance in the Twin City Meet now leaves her with 18 first-place finishes out of 18 individual events this season.

Fellow newcomer freshman Milee Nelson also racked up points by winning the 500 freestyle in a time of 5 minutes, 32.27 seconds, and placing third in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.78.

The 400 freestyle relay of Boyce, Nelson, and juniors Sian Best and Maritza Mestre placed first with a time of 4:06.45.

The meet was Centennial's Senior Night, and seniors from all four teams were briefly honored.

The Killer Whales will swim next at the O'Fallon Invitational on Saturday. Uni placed second at the meet last year.
