URBANA — Uni was mathematically eliminated from its pursut of an eighth straight Soccer Shoot Out title after losing to Fisher/GCMS 3-1 this afternoon at the DCR Soccer Fields.

Junior Dan Lilly put the Illineks on the board with a second-half goal, but by then Fisher/GCMS had built a 2-0 lead.

Any chance of Uni escaping with a tie ended late in the game as Fisher/GCMS — a co-op team consisting of Fisher and Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley high schools — scored on a shot that went over the head of junior goalkeeper Nile Hamer.

With the loss, Uni dropped to 0-2 on the day, whille Fisher/GCMS improved to 2-0.

The Illineks began the season-opening tournament this morning with a 2-0 loss to Blue Ridge.

Fisher/GCMS followed that with a 1-0 victory over Oakwood.

With only one game remaining on its schedule today, Uni no longer has a chance to win the Shoot Out, now in its eighth year. This will be the first time the Illineks have not won at least a share of the tourney title.

Last season Uni went 2-0-1 at the Shoot Out, tying Fisher/GCMS and defeating Blue Ridge and Oakwood.

Uni will finish today with a 4:15 p.m. contest against Oakwood.
