STANFORD — The Uni girls swim team won every event at Saturday's meet with Stanford Olympia.

The 131-24 victory marked an impressive beginning to the 2007 season. Last year Uni defeated Olympia 128-38, taking first in 10 events. This year the Uni girls won all 11 events:

  • 200 medley relay: Sian Best, Maritza Mestre, Erika Belmont, Elizabeth Allen, 1st, 2:18.17
  • 200 free: Katie Ryan, 1st, 2:21.50
  • 200 individual medley: Deborah Ladd, 1st, 2:50.89
  • 50 free: Belmont, 1st, 0:29.83
  • 100 fly: Best, 1st, 1:14.83
  • 100 free: Aliisa Rantanen, 1st, 1:04.37
  • 500 free: Ladd, 1st, 6:45.57
  • 200 free relay: Allen, Belmont, Rantanen, Ryan, 1st, 2:03.17
  • 100 back: Best, 1st, 1:14.16
  • 100 breast: Belmont, 1st, 1:21.94
  • 400 free relay: Best, Ladd, Rantanen, Ryan, 1st, 4:36.97

"Everyone did really well for their first meet," said Best, a sophomore. "We got first, second, and third in most events, but the other team still did pretty well despite having only five people. I was really excited competing in my first Uni meet — I especially was excited about our medley relay, which was all sophomores."

The girls will travel north Saturday as they compete against the Maroons of University High Chicago. Last season Uni defeated their rival lab school 87-81.
