Editorial: A question of respect — or lack thereof

When you refuse to pick up after yourself in the kitchen, it says that you lack respect — not for the building, but for your co-inhabitants, be they fellow students just trying to heat up a lunch, or faculty members who are required to make sure that this building stays functional. But what should the proper response to that disrespect be?

Editorial: What we really learned at Uni

With their careers as Uni students about to end, several senior editors reflect on what they've learned during the past five years. "Mostly it comes down to what is being asked of us," they write. "Is it just too much? Or is it just too much of the wrong type of thing? Uni students are working hard — but is it all for the wrong reason?"

Editorial: To skip, or not to skip, that is the question

One of Uni's unique characteristics is that some students may enter from the sixth grade. As a result, every grade level can have an age gap of almost three years. Are students who skip a grade expected to grow up too fast? What negative impact does this have on the student and the Uni community as a whole?

Editorial: Political tolerance at Uni

We here at Uni High often consider ourselves to be tolerant, accepting, and generally open-minded. But with the presidential election finally drawing to a close, how true has that been? How tolerant has the liberal majority at Uni been toward conservatives? Not matter what the outcome of today's vote, we need to remember that vigorous debate and respect for other viewpoints are not mutually exclusive.

Editorial: Hooray for spring break!

Spring break is finally here and the senior editors are more than excited. We are ecstatic. That's not to say that we're not a bit worried about parental overinvolvement in our vacation. Methodically planned activities, complete with sightseeing from sunup to sundown, induce fear that our relaxation time will be exponentially diminished. Nevertheless, we know spring break will be great. We're almost done!

Editorial: When should quitting be an option?

December brings Christmas carols, popping fires, and cold-induced frostbites. It's also the time when senioritis hits the hardest, and lethargic seniors who despise doing homework are often seen wandering around the halls of Uni. But this editorial is about none of these things. It's about homeless kittens and varsity volleyball. It's about whether an activity, which once brought passion into your eyes but now only brings tears of boredom, is all right to quit. We each have our own response to this dilemma, so read on to find out whether quitting is ever justifiable.

Editorial: Understanding Generation Q

Older generations are notorious for finding flaws with the generations that come after them. This year's senior editors have decided that they are undeserving of the criticism that New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman has bestowed upon their generation in his article titled "Generation Q." Instead, they explain, the criticism needs to be pointed in the opposite direction: namely, the generation before theirs.
