Cheers & Jeers: End-of-first-quarter '08 edition

Cheers & Jeers

Cheers

  • Postseason Competition

With fall sports wrapping up, we're heading into the postseason. We're excited to see how Uni will do! The boys soccer team has already won its regional quarterfinal game and will play Judah Christian in the semifinals under the lights at 7 p.m. Saturday at Danville Schlarman. The cross country teams run their regional meet on Oct. 25, followed by sectionals and state the next two weekends. The girls volleyball team will begin regional action on Oct. 30, and the girls swimming team will finish things in November with sectionals (Nov. 15) and state (Nov. 21-22). GO UNI!

  • U of I Apps are Done!

It was a relatively easy app for those who are applying to the U of I, but at least it's done. One down … a million to go.

  • One Quarter Down!

It's the end of the quarter! That means we're one-fourth of the way through the year! Summer is just around the corner!

  • Senior Nights!

Ah, Senior Night. The sometimes terribly unprepared speeches from underclassmen, the awkward handshakes and bouquet-giving. We love it. Guys soccer Senior Night was especially excellent, especially the poems, which made us think ever so fondly of this*. Good job, junior boys! Also, congrats to both the soccer team and the volleyball team on winning their Senior Nights, and to the girls swimming team for its great Make a Difference Meet with Urbana this week. Good luck to everyone else the rest this year!

  • New Blinds!

Yeah! Something actually works! Props to finally getting the sunlight out of our eyes, whoever put them in. Plus, we no longer have to fear for our lives when we sit next to a window, because those old blinds were SCARY.

  • The Weather!

Sometimes it's cold, sometimes it's hot. It keeps us guessing and keeps us from getting too bored. Plus, it keeps the wardrobe choices interesting.

  • Open Doors

All those opposing Uni's new security system are in luck … at least for now.

  • The Elevator is Open!

Still! Good job everybody on managing to keep it open for more than a month!

Jeers

  • College Apps

College apps take so much energy, so much effort, so much time, and we seniors already have a lot of other stuff to do.

  • One Quarter Down

It's the end of the quarter. That means we're one-fourth of the way through the year. For us seniors, 17/20 of the way done with our Uni careers. Graduation is just around the corner. Holy crud. (Plus tests and grades and AAAAHHH!)

  • Senior Nights

Sometimes they're entertaining, but unfortunately not everybody is cool enough to write poems. Also, we here on the Gargoyle are disappointed that Neil Pearson did not get to make a speech/write a beautiful brotherly poem about Carl (though we understand he did not have a choice). Write poems, everybody!

  • New Blinds

They'll probably be broken before winter break.

  • The Weather

The weather cannot make up its mind! We are getting kind of tired of it. We don't know what to wear in the morning! Choose a season, why don't you?

  • Senior Yearbook Stuff

It was due so early! We'll probably all hate our pictures by the time yearbooks come out. Plus, it's college app time, and we don't want to have to think about so many things at once.

  • The Elevator

It will probably end up getting closed again before we know it. It's almost not worth getting our hopes up.
