MathCounts: Subfreshmen place 4th at state finals, Roth finishes 9th

Led by Edo Roth, the Uni MathCounts team placed fourth at Saturday's state finals. The team consisted of Roth and fellow subfreshmen Chelsea Edwards, Henry Carlton, and Max Sigalov. They were accompanied by alternate Yulun Wu and individual competitor Patrick Wong. Math teacher Gene Bild is team coach.

MathCounts: Subfreshmen win regionals, qualify for state contest

Uni's MathCounts team won the Champaign County Chapter regional competition Feb. 14. The team consisted of subfreshmen Edo Roth, Chelsea Edwards, Henry Carlton, and Max Sigalov. Yulun Wu was the highest-ranked alternate competitor. All five students will travel with coach Gene Bild on March 7 to the state competition in Matteson.

The 2008 Uni High graduate won his second gold medal in two years and led the six-member U.S. team to a third-place finish at the 49th IMO, held in July in Madrid, Spain. Zhai scored the maximum possible 42 points.

MathCounts: Subfreshmen finish second at regionals, two team members advance to state

Uni High’s MathCounts team finished second at the Champaign County regional competition Saturday at Everitt Lab. Subfreshmen Kathy Qiu and Kathleen Kohl advanced to the state tournament, which will be held in Matteson on March 8.

MathCounts: Subfreshmen win local competition, head to state finals

Five subbies will compete in the state MathCounts final March 3 in Matteson. An eight-person Uni team won the local chapter title Feb. 10 on the U of I campus.

After a second-place finish at regionals, the Uni MathCounts team will compete in the state contest on March 4.
