Uni receives $200,000 gift from alumni couple

CHICAGO — Class of 1994 graduate Catherine Chou Gruschow and her husband, 1995 alum George Gruschow of Allston Trading, LLC, have donated $200,000 to the school.

The Chicago-area couple made the gift on Oct. 23 at an alumni reception at the Room 21 Restaurant in Chicago.

“George and I have fond memories of Uni,” Catherine said in an e-mail message. “We first met there and both of our siblings went there as well. I hope our donation to Uni helps with many areas of need.”

The school has not yet decided how the money will be used.

“Not only was the gift a pleasant surprise, but it was also a testament that Uni High is not only a good teaching school, but a school that develops special bonds and friendships for a lifetime,” said Director of Advancement Karen Cooley, who received the gift from the Gruschows.

Catherine and George have two children: Tyler, who will be 4 years old on Dec. 9, and Annabelle, who will be 8 months on Dec. 2.
