A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS
Daisy Hassani (left), Emma Anselin (center), and Maddy Hamlin await the start of Uni's 2007 graduation ceremony Saturday, June 2, at the Krannert Center's Tryon Festival Theatre. Fifty-nine seniors became alumni during the two-hour ceremony, which featured a student welcome address by Jacquelin Hedeman and a farewell by class president Devin Johnson. The graduation choir, led by fine arts executive teacher Rick Murphy, provided a well-received musical interlude. English teacher Steve Rayburn gave the commencement speech, while history teacher Bill Sutton delivered the benediction. Rebecca Lynn Weisel Wachtel, a 1967 Uni graduate, received the Max Beberman Distinguished Alumni Award. The highlight of the afternoon, of course, was the presentation of the diplomas, accompanied by a rose for each graduate. As the clock approached 5 p.m., the Class of 2007 began life after Uni to the tune of King Harvest's "Dancin' in the Moonlight."
