Senior Michelle Mehnert crosses the finish line at the Monticello cross country meet Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Lodge Park. Mehnert placed first in that four-team meet, which the Uni girls won handily. On Saturday, Sept. 22, the girls narrowly missed winning the St. Joseph-Ogden Spartan Classic. Mehnert placed fifth out of 156 runners and the Illineks, ranked No. 4 in Class 1A, finished second behind No. 3-ranked Eureka. Running without senior Shivani Khanna, Uni missed the title by only 6 points. Twenty-two scoring teams competed.
