Temperatures plunged Thursday morning, falling to -14° F with a wind chill of almost -35° F. Due to the bitterly cold weather and gusting snow, school was canceled for Thursday. Most other area schools, including Champaign and Urbana public schools, were closed on Thursday as well. The girls varsity basketball game against DeLand-Weldon scheduled for Thursday night has been rescheduled to start at 5 p.m. on Friday. The boys JV and varsity games, also against DeLand-Weldon, will follow. The games will mark the end of Spirit Week, so students are encouraged to come out and support Uni basketball. Admission will be half-price. The girls game will feature senior Rachel Skoza as she tries to reach 1,000 career points. She needs only 11 points. Skoza would join four other Uni females in that elite club: Sophia Neely ('86), Amanda Palla ('97), Lis Pollock ('99), and Molly Smith ('05).
