URBANA — Seniors Daniel Borup, Isaac Chambers, and Natsuki Nakamura have been chosen to represent Uni High at the annual Noon Kiwanis Club Luncheon.
Uni was invited to select three seniors for the honor. The school's scholarship/awards faculty committee chose the students for their academic and extracurricular achievements.
Borup's accomplishments include being named a Presidential Scholars semifinalist, a National Merit finalist, and a two-time Illinois Music Educators Association All-State musician.
He was a member of Uni's state-championship Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Academic Challenge team.
In the spring play, Borup played the male lead role of Tony in "West Side Story" and has been active in Uni's music program, including the Madrigals.
Chambers is Student Council executive president, the latest in his long line of student-government leadership positions.
He has been a member of Uni's state-qualifying cross country and track teams, and just this week he and his ExploraVision teammates won first place in the international science competition.
Chambers was one of two Illinois students chosen to visit Washington, D.C., in March for the U.S. Senate Youth Program. He was also a National Merit commended student.
Nakamura has also been involved in student government throughout her Uni career. As a senior, she is executive secretary-treasurer of Student Council.
She is a National Merit finalist and member of Uni's state-championship WYSE Academic Challenge team.
Nakamura was a four-year member of the Uni swim team and has been active in Students For a Better World, among her many volunteer positions both at school and in the community.
The three students will be joined by other representatives from Champaign-Urbana area schools on May 14 at the Hawthorn Suites in Champaign.
All representatives were chosen by their high schools. Director Steve Epperson will introduce the Uni trio at the luncheon and discuss their accomplishments, according to Director of College counseling Lisa Micele. The students will be invited to share their post- high school plans with the audience.
Last year's recipients of the honor were Micah Berman, Ethan Berl, Eunice How, and Rachel Hurley.
