Prox Card System
The prox card system is finally up and running, and it surprises us to say that it's not actually as much of a hassle as we anticipated. If nothing else, at least we can finally stop cheering and jeering all of this hullabaloo.

Girls Soccer
Even though UHGS lost a bunch of seniors from last year, and various other players have since departed, they got off to a great start against St. Thomas More on Monday, winning 6-0. Additions like senior Rachel Skoza, sophomore transfer Eunjung Kim, and freshman Jamie Blue are meshing well with a strong core of varsity veterans and first-time varsity players from last year's JV. The Illineks are 2-1 as they get ready to play Centennial after spring break. The JV is also going strong, sporting a 2-0 record with wins over STM and Central.

Track
The indoor track season will come to an end March 27 with the Illinois Prep Top Times Meet in Bloomington, and a number of Uni athletes have already qualified with some of the top performances in Class 1A. Some of the highlights this season have included junior Tuli Bera's win in the 55-meter dash at the Charleston Girls Invitational and Malcolm Taylor's meet record in the 400 at the Charleston Boys Invite. Good luck to everyone at IPTT!

Sunshine and Cloudless Skies
We're so happy that it's finally warmed up enough to wear shorts! Sure, there have been random spurts of sunshine in the past month or so, but things are looking up in the warmth and sunshine department. Also, now we finally have an excuse to go summer-clothing shopping.

Spring Break (Finally!)
Just as the weather is getting gorgeous, we get a no-strings-attached week off from school to enjoy the green grass and blue skies. Whether you're departing dear old Chambana or hanging around, good times are a guarantee.

College Acceptance Letters …
As April 1 quickly approaches, people are already beginning to hear from colleges. After all that time of filling out résumés, getting teacher recommendations, and writing multiple essays, the waiting and anxiety are finally coming to an end. Thanks to the Student Services Offices for being patient and all the wonderful teachers who helped us out!

Musical Talents
The musical skills of Uni students are truly impressive. The school orchestra and mixed chorus put on a superb winter concert March 3 in Uni Gym under the direction of Rick Murphy, and more than 30 Uni musicians scored top ratings at the March 14 solo and ensemble music competition at Mahomet-Seymour High School. That same day, freshman pianist Kathy Qiu performed with the Danville Symphony Orchestra. Uni's ambitious spring musical, "West Side Story," is just two weeks away, when a full range of talents will be on display thanks to the directing team of Barbara Ridenour and Murphy. Even in the world of rock, Uni students shine — Shoompie (seniors Clement Dossin, Carter Hutchens, Kareem Sayegh, Teddy Zamora-Mills, and junior Eddie Diazmuñoz) won third place at the Champaign Park District's Battle of the Bands.

Plentiful Pennies
A Uni-wide drive called Pasta for Pennies raised tons of money this year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The school was organized into 11 teams, a boys and girls team for each grade plus one for faculty. Going into the final day of the drive, the total money donated had already totaled more than $1,700 — way to go, Uni!

Honors and Accomplishments
The awards and honors keep piling up! From senior Kareem Sayegh, who won the state title in Poetry Out Loud and will compete at nationals, to freshmen Marina Shah, Jamie Blue, and Leah Malkovich, who were named Student Historians of the Year by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, the list of remarkable student achievements is longer than ever. Check out our Student Awards section for more, and please keep the news of those accomplishments coming!

Prox Card System
OK, we just cheered prox cards. But, even though they're not that bad, and at least the system is finally up and running ... The weather outside is gorgeous! We just wish we could prop open the first-floor doors and enjoy the 70-degrees-and-sunshine, instead of being locked in with all the stuffy air. And a lot seniors having to get their cards replaced for 20 bucks, a little over two months before we graduate? We're too poor as it is.

A Pointless Week
For some reason, the start of spring break this year fell exactly one week after fourth quarter began. This confusion caused us to feel even more unmotivated than we usually are at the beginning of the final quarter.

Post-Prom Lockdown
Post prom sounds like so much fun; who wouldn't like swimming and rock climbing and running around and having fun? But what's with having to stay until 6 in the morning? All of a sudden we're having to make a decision to either relax and chill with friends or go to post prom at the ARC; there's no "both" option. Please reconsider?

Facebook Gets Freaky
Maybe it's just true that Uni students don't like change, but there is just something about this new Facebook design that revolts us. There was an original appeal to Facebook because it seemed so much more "mature" than MySpace. But now, with all the bold bubbly fonts, absurd applications, and possibilities to glamorize your layout, we're rooting for the old layout to come back before we have to find another social networking system. We'll see you on MyYearbook.com!!
