Boyce, Mehnert named to USA Swimming's Scholastic All-America Team; Boyce honored by Illinois Swimming

JUNIOR LISA BOYCE has joined 2008 Uni graduate Michelle Mehnert among the ranks of USA Swimming's Scholastic All-Americans.
Boyce and Mehnert were each named to the 2007-08 Women's Scholastic All-America Team. USA Swimming announced the team on Thursday.
This is Boyce's first year as a Scholastic All-American and Mehnert's third. Mehnert is now a freshman at the University of Illinois. She is a member of the U of I women's swimming team.
The qualifications specify that members must have completed 10th grade, have a current GPA above 3.5, and participated in an individual event that met the Junior National Bonus Time Standard between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008.
Of the 600 female swimmers, 28 were from Illinois.
In addition to her USA Swimming distinction, Boyce was honored at Illinois Swimming's annual Athlete Recognition Banquet at the Marriott Chicago O'Hare on Oct. 12.
The banquet program featured Olympic medalists Matt Grevers and Christine Magnuson.
The invitation was offered only to swimmers who finished in the top three of their age group and event in Illinois Swimming's top 10 rankings for either the 2007-08 Short Course or the 2008 Long Course Season.
Boyce qualified after placing first in her 13- to 14-year-old age group in the 100-meter freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 200 backstroke, and second in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly in the top 10 rankings of the Long Course Season.
In all, Boyce placed in the top 10 in 10 of the 12 Illinois Swimming events she competed in this summer for 13- to 14-year-old females:
- 50 Freestyle: 5th (27.99)
- 100 Freestyle: 1st (59.27)
- 200 Freestyle: 2nd (2:10.74)
- 400 Freestyle: 5th (4:38.30)
- 100 Backstroke: 1st (1:05.29)
- 200 Backstroke: 1st (2:25.29)
- 100 Butterfly: 2nd (1:06.57)
- 200 Butterfly: 9th (2:32.64)
- 200 Individual Medley: 4th (2:29.71)
- 400 Individual Medley: 5th (5:21.26)
