Judging the covers of books

For this year's Teen Tech Week, Natalie is preparing a "redesign a book cover" contest. She was inspired by The Guardian, which, in turn, was inspired by bookninja.com. Bookninja was all about rebranding to build best sellers out of classics. The Guardian focused on redesigning classic books for our dumbed-down age. Here's what happened to poor J.R.R.:

Our contest is wide open. You can design a cover that attempts to portray the book accurately, OR you can reinterpret the title and poke some fun at the book. The method is also open - digital editing, drawing, painting, collage, photography, finger paints. Submit entries by spring break (March 20) in person, by e-mail, or via a site like DeviantArt.

Yes, there will be prizes! Most likely in the form of gift cards to Borders. What are you waiting for?

This is sure one fascinating post! Yeah-Boy! (actually, I liked it a lot, and all the other covers at the Guardian - I hope you get lots of good entries for this contest too.)

Can we work in pairs? Like, could I design the cover and have someone else draw it since I'm not a good artist?

Let's check with Natalie (aka, The Contest Boss). From my perspective, you'd just run the risk of having to split the fabulous prize should you win ;-) .

Also, how soon can submit our covers?

As soon and as often as you want. Only one entry can win, though.

I asked Natalie, and I get to make one, even though I'm in Oregon! Yay!

I'm thinking of doing "My Sister's Keeper," a Harry Potter book, or a Twilight book. Maybe all three. :D

YAY KATHLEEN!!! There's actually a cover for "My Sister's Keeper" outside the library, actually. And on one of the websites. Can't wait to see what you'll do with the Harry Potter and Twilight covers! I made a really beastly Little Prince cover :D

Hey Maia -
If you're still reading, yes you can enter in pairs. But like Ms. Harris said, if you win, you'll have to split the prize. But that's not so bad, eh?
