Making sense

Author and illustrator David Macaulay has a true gift for breaking down complex processes and explaining them in a way that makes sense. We just got his latest book, The Way We Work: Getting to Know the Amazing Human Body, and I've been having a great time browsing its pages. Who else would call the respiratory system "Air Traffic Control"? The book took him six years to write and illustrate. Here's his depiction of the eye's swiveling action, "moved by six straplike muscles":
