Counting

Today, pollsters, pundits, and election officials are counting votes. As it turns out, we are doing some counting of our own for this semester's "Sweeps Week," the University Library's effort to create a snapshot of the activity in all its libraries. For us, it means recording every time someone asks a question and, once an hour, cruising around the library and recording the number of people in it. For the first time, we are using web-based software instead of making little hash marks on a piece of paper. My favorite part is the hourly body count:

Note: Whole numbers only, please. You get no extra credit for having 4 legs, nor do you get half-credit for being here in spirit only.

If you are more interested in counting votes than bodies, check out the Ultimate Guide to Election Coverage from newteevee.com.

Can you post some of the results from your counting endeavors?

I'm wearing a public library t-shirt today (Welfleet, MA) and realized that it's shame we don't have a Uni High Library equivalent...or do we?

Funny thing about these counting endeavors. We aren't very good at them. "Did you do the hourly count?" "No, I forgot! Did you?" But we're trying our best and I will post anything interesting that comes up (like people who really should be counted in partial numbers).

Gosh, I just like saying "Wellfleet." Over and over again.
