It's always risky
...when you put markers and public writing space in front of teenagers. We were (sort of) prepared for the consequences when Natalie put up a display for this year's Teen Read Week, which has the theme "LOL @ your library." We have a nice display of humorous books inside the library. On the board in the hall outside the library, the banner reads "What makes you LOL?" - thus, the writing space and markers. Within ten minutes, we got the predictable scatological contribution. I countered by posting a little "Be nice, don't make the librarian sad" note next to it. And it worked. As you can see, there are lots of good submissions now.

My personal favorite is the one that reads: "Adults that use Internet abbreviations."

Wow, I love your Blog. I work at a High School in Currituck, NC & I'm taking a little workshop call "Technology Academy". The assignment was to find a blog that is related to your profession. I feel that I found a great one with you school's Blog. We try & make our Library somewhat of a Barnes and Noble for the students. I have found some new ideas to try from your Blog. Thanks
Thanks so much! It's very cool to know someone out there is watching :-).
We (at Currituck Co, High School) used your idea "What makes you LOL? We posted it on our green board and named it a SLAM BOARD (after the Slam Books we use to pass around in Middle school, back in the 70's) We are going to post a different question each week. Student have had a lot of fun with the LOL question. Thanks again.
PS one student was sad that we took the jumbo sudoku off the board.
