CHARLESTON — At halftime of today's road game against Charleston, the Uni girls soccer team was excited.

After a solid first-half performance, the Illineks were tied 1-1 with their Class AA opponent.

Though the Lady Trojans scored first within the first 10 minutes of play, Uni struck back with about 10 minutes left in the half when junior Suran Yoo redirected a corner kick into the 18-yard box, where freshman Erika Belmont finished.

However, it was all downhill for Uni after the break.

The Lady Trojans scored twice to start off the second half, once on a shot well outside the 18-yard box.

Shell-shocked, the Illineks fell apart and gave up 4 more goals before the final whistle as they lost 7-1. Two of the goals scored in the second half were own-goals.

The nonconference defeat drops Uni to 0-3-1 for the season.

Last year, Uni lost 5-0 to Charleston.

The Illineks play next at DCR Fields Thursday against Macon Meridian, a team that defeated Uni 8-0 last season. The varsity match will begin at 4:30 p.m.
