FOR THE SECOND consecutive year, Uni's freshman class will head out to the Allerton 4-H Memorial Camp for a three-day, two-night field trip.

The Class of 2010 will leave Wednesday morning and return Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Isaac Chambers planned the first Allerton Education Experience trip last year, and it turned out to be a success.

“The goal of this trip is to offer an educational experience outside the confines of classroom walls, provide an opportunity for personal leadership development, and enhance class unity,” said health teacher DeeDee Wright.

Wright helped plan this year's trip along with freshman class officers Linda Ly, Maritza Mestre, and Alexx Engles.

At Allerton the freshmen will participate in a variety of activities, running the gamut from rock-climbing to making s'mores.

“I think there is a good mix of organized activities but also free time for students to relax and get to know each other better,” said Wright.

Along with the more fun activities, the freshmen will also have to keep up with their regular schoolwork. Time has been set aside each day for math, biology, social studies, and English.

In addition, some teachers have given their students projects to complete while at Allerton. For example, French II teacher John Garvey has told his students to keep a diary of what happens at Allerton each day — in French, of course.

The students will also participate in leadership exercises and service projects.

Parent and teacher chaperones will oversee the trip.
