Building pyramids and climbing walls: The Allerton Experience in photos

Posted Monday, May 1, 2006, The OG, features

The freshman class spent Wednesday through Friday last week at the Allerton 4-H Memorial Camp on a field trip that combined academics, hands-on learning, and plenty of fun activities. Whether they were building polyhedron pyramids in math class or climbing the walls outdoors, the freshmen were pioneering something that could — who knows? — become a new tradition at Uni.

“I think it would be safe to say that the trip was a big success for both the teachers and students,” said freshman Isaac Chambers, who proposed the excursion and did much of the initial planning. “The students got to have interesting and new academic possibilities while having a blast with the other activities. The teachers got to take a break from teaching for a short while, enjoy the weather, and participate in some of the activities such as the climbing wall, night hike, poker, and more.”

Freshman Natsuki Nakamura was among the students who documented the field trip in photos. She was generous enough to share these shots with us. For more coverage of the trip, see Chambers' article here.
